Las Vegas police search for smash-and-grab suspect disguised as woman who stole $130K in jewelry

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Las Vegas Metro police were searching for a man Wednesday who reportedly dressed as a woman and robbed two jewelry stores on the Las Vegas Strip, sources told the 8 News Now I-Team.

The male suspect first used a hammer in a smash-and-grab at Maui Jewelers in the Fashion Show Mall on Tuesday afternoon, sources said. A person with a similar suspect description robbed a jewelry store at Caesars Palace several hours later.

In both cases combined, more than $130,000 in jewelry was stolen, sources said.

The suspect was disguised with padding in his chest and buttock areas, investigators believe.

The I-Team contacted Maui Jewelers on Wednesday, but the store declined to provide surveillance footage of the incident. The exact location of the second robbery was unknown.

A representative with Metro said the department was not releasing the footage as of Wednesday.

Las Vegas police dog involved in car chase crash in good condition

LAS VEGAS (KLAS)-- The police dog involved in a head-on collision following a violent vehicle chase on Aug 11 has fully recovered, according to a tweet from Metro. Boris, a 5-year-old Belgian Malinois was inside a police vehicle when it was struck head-on by a man fleeing police. Boris was taken to a veterinary hospital following the accident, and police said he is recovering well. LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- A civil lawsuit filed Friday against New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara includes photographs of the alleged beating of a man outside of a Las Vegas nightclub and asks a jury to award the victim $10 million. Kamara, Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Chris Lammons and two other men face criminal charges connected to the incident outside of a Strip nightclub on Feb. 5 during the NFL Pro Bowl weekend.
