Democrat Susie Lee defeats Republican April Becker for Las Vegas congressional seat

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Democratic Rep. Susie Lee has won re-election in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District, which represents areas south of Las Vegas including Henderson, Boulder City, and parts of unincorporated Clark County.

Lee won the seat with 51.56% percentage points against Republican challenger April Becker who had 48.44%.

Friday's results showed Lee winning by 123,263 votes to Becker's 115,810 votes.

This marks what will be Lee's third consecutive term in the House of Representatives.

Mobile food pantry serves thousands of Las Vegas residents

LAS VEGAS (KLAS)-- On Saturday, Aug. 20 The Just One Project of southern Nevada held multiple pop-up food pantries. In total, 14 mobile pop-up sites distributed free groceries to more than 2,500 households, and 12,00 food-insecure individuals in the Las Vegas area. The Just One Project is southern Nevada's largest mobile food pantry and holds monthly pop-up mobile markets in order to provide groceries to underserved communities. Nevada is ranked eighth nationally among states with the highest projected overall food insecurity rates in 2021, as compiled by Feeding America. Person falls from scooter, struck and killed by car, Metro says

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Metro police are investigating the death of a person who fell from an electric scooter and then was struck by car late Saturday night in the southwest valley. The crash happened at 11:47 p.m. on South Jones Boulevard and West Tropicana Avenue, according to a news release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. A 2014 Honda CR-V was traveling south on Jones in the right lane, and the person who was driving the scooter also was lying in the right lane, police said. "Evidence suggests the pedestrian was riding the scooter and had fallen in the roadway" before the car "collided with the left side of the pedestrian," the news release said. Emergency personnel responded, police said, and the person was pronounced dead at the scene. The news release said the person did not have identification, and police did not provide gender or any other information.
